A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING ALAN MARK BANK UPON BEING NAMED TUPELO'S OUTSTANDING CITIZEN OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, on February 12, 2010, the Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo named Mr. Alan Mark Bank Tupelo's Outstanding Citizen of the Year, and it is with great appreciation that we recognize his accomplishment and his dedication and devotion to education, the arts, economic development and health care within the Tupelo community; and

     WHEREAS, a retired consultant and a former captain of industry turned philanthropist in retirement, Mr. Bank, who is a proud resident of the City of Tupelo and Lee County, accepted the honor before a crowd of more than 750 gathered to honor his achievement; and

     WHEREAS, cheered on by his wife, Marilynne, and members of his family, the 81-year-old ascended a stage with a face of pure joy that is only shown by a person who has followed his or her calling; and

     WHEREAS, crediting the people of Tupelo for giving him the opportunity, Mr. Bank calls volunteering an awesome privilege and feels he is fortunate to help people in need; and

     WHEREAS, moving from Jersey City, New Jersey, to Tueplo, Mr. Bank served as the Chief Executive of Super Sagless for more than 40 years; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bank's vocabulary does not include the word "no," and due to his reputation of getting people to work together for superior results for the good of the community, he is sought after daily by his peers; and

     WHEREAS, after his successful career with Super Sagless, Mr. Bank could have easily retired, hitting the golf course or tennis court, but this was not enough for him; and

     WHEREAS, instead of relaxing after his retirement from Super Sagless, Mr. Bank became the President and Chairman of the Board of the Regional Rehabilitation Center in Tueplo; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bank loves working at the Rehabilitation Center with those who make him feel wanted and appreciated; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bank has been at Regional Rehabilitation Center for over four years where he recently spearheaded a successful $2 million capital campaign to remodel the center; and

     WHEREAS, the Regional Rehabilitation Center is the only facility in Northeast Mississippi that provides comprehensive services related to an early intervention program for infants and toddlers at risk for developmental delay under one roof, including services related to audiology, speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy; and

     WHEREAS, beyond his service to the Regional Rehabilitation Center, Mr. Bank has left his stamp on the Good Samaritan Free Clinic, Itawamba Community College Foundation, Tupelo Artist Guild, Cultural Alliance of Tupelo and Lee County, Sanctuary Hospice House, North Mississippi Medical Center, Mississippi Arts Commission and numerous other organizations; and

     WHEREAS, those who know Mr. Bank best say that his dedication to Tupelo is unmatched, and his quiet demeanor and generous good will to all are obvious upon meeting him; and

     WHEREAS, an Air Force veteran of the Korean War, Mr. Bank earned degrees from Rider University in New Jersey and New York University Graduate Business School, and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School; and

     WHEREAS, as a guest lecturer, Mr. Bank not only gives his time, but shares his experience with students at the University of Mississippi Business School and Saltillo High School; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bank's faith is strong as demonstrated by his being an active member of Temple B'nai Israel in Tupelo; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Bank and his lovely and gracious wife, Marilynne, have three daughters, Avery, Merritt Lee and Hillary, and three grandchildren, Skylar, Eliza and Wyatt; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to honor diligent citizens such as Mr. Bank, whose legacy of dedicated service is exemplified by outstanding leadership and volunteerism for his community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Mr. Alan Mark Bank on being named Tupelo's Outstanding Citizen of the Year, recognize his contributions as a community volunteer, and extend best wishes for many years of good health and enjoyment in the future.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Alan Mark Bank and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
