AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT THE OWNER OF A MOTOR VEHICLE WHO IS A RECIPIENT OF MEDICAID BENEFITS SHALL NOT BE ALLOWED TO RECEIVE ANY DISTINCTIVE MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAG FOR WHICH AN ADDITIONAL FEE IS REQUIRED; TO PROVIDE THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAID, IN COOPERATION WITH THE STATE TAX COMMISSION, SHALL DEVELOP A COMPUTER PROGRAM THAT WILL ALLOW COUNTY TAX COLLECTORS TO DETERMINE WHETHER AN APPLICANT FOR A DISTINCTIVE MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAG IS A RECIPIENT OF MEDICAID BENEFITS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The owner of a motor vehicle who is a recipient of Medicaid benefits shall not be allowed to receive any distinctive motor vehicle license tag authorized by this chapter for which an additional fee is required.

     (2)  The Department of Medicaid, in cooperation with the Department of Revenue, shall develop a computer program that will allow county tax collectors to determine whether an applicant for a distinctive motor vehicle license tag is a recipient of Medicaid benefits.

     SECTION 2.  The provisions of Section 1 of this act shall be codified in Chapter 19 of Title 27, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2011.
