AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 1, CHAPTER 940, LOCAL AND PRIVATE LAWS OF 2009, WHICH AUTHORIZES THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF GREENE COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI, TO LEVY AN ASSESSMENT, IN ADDITION TO ANY OTHER ASSESSMENTS AND COURT COSTS, FOR EACH CIVIL CASE FILED IN, AND FOR EACH MISDEMEANOR CONVICTION OBTAINED IN ITS JUSTICE COURT TO BE USED TO FUND THE CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF A NEW COUNTY OFFICE BUILDING, TO BE KNOWN AS THE "GREENE COUNTY JUSTICE COURT COMPLEX," TO INCREASE THE ASSESSMENT FOR MISDEMEANOR CONVICTIONS AND EXTEND THE REPEAL DATE ON THE SECTION UNTIL JULY 1, 2016; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 1, Chapter 940, Local and Private Laws of 2009, is amended as follows:

     Section 1.  (1)  The Board of Supervisors of Greene County, Mississippi, in its discretion, is authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on its minutes, to levy an assessment, in addition to any other assessments and court costs, not to exceed Fifteen Dollars ($15.00) per case, for each civil case filed in any justice court of Greene County and * * * for each misdemeanor conviction obtained in any justice court of such county.

     (2)  The avails of the additional assessment imposed pursuant to subsection (1) of this section shall be expended by the Board of Supervisors of Greene County to fund the construction, operation, maintenance and related needs of a new county office building, to be known as the "Greene County Justice Court Complex."

     (3)  The provisions of this section shall be repealed from and after July 1, 2016.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
