Short Title:        Car Theft to Steal Motor Parts.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to increase the penalty for stealing a motor vehicle for the purpose of stealing the motor parts and to appropriate funds to the judicial department to assist with implementation costs.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 14‑72(b) reads as rewritten:

"(b)      The crime of larceny is a felony, without regard to the value of the property in question, if the larceny is any of the following:

(6)        Of a motor vehicle with the intent to engage in a violation of G.S. 14‑72.7 or G.S. 14‑72.8."

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Judicial Department the sum of twenty‑five thousand dollars ($25,000) for the 2010‑2011 fiscal year to assist with the cost of implementing this act.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective December 1, 2010, and applies to offenses committed on or after that date.
