A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to appropriate funds to reduce class size in kindergarten through third grade.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  There is appropriated from the General Fund to the Department of Public Instruction the sum of ninety‑two million eight hundred eighty‑five thousand eight hundred seventy‑seven dollars ($92,885,877) for the 2012‑2013 fiscal year to reduce class size in kindergarten through third grade.  Notwithstanding G.S. 115C‑301 or any other law, local school administrative units shall have the maximum flexibility to use these additional teacher positions to maximize student achievement in kindergarten through third grade.

SECTION 2.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2012.
