Short Title:        Funding for Law Enforcement Support Services.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to restore funding for law enforcement support services in the department of crime control and public safety.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1.  G.S. 143B‑475.2 reads as rewritten:

"§ 143B‑475.2.  Fees for services.

A fee in the amount set by the Department is imposed on the entities listed in this section.Program service fees shall be established for all program services except for excess property acquisition and first responder assistance services rendered. The fees are departmental receipts and are applied to the Department's costs in providing services to these entities. The fees apply to the following:

(1)        A local law enforcement agency that employs more than 25 officers and that receives equipment from the Department, whether by transfer, loan, or procurement under an agreement with the United States Department of Defense.

(2)        A person for whom the Department stores evidence."

SECTION 2.  There is appropriated form the General Fund to the Department of Crime Control and Public Safety, Law Enforcement Support Services Division, for fiscal year 2010‑2011, the sum of three hundred thousand dollars ($300,000) to support the Division's operating costs.

SECTION 3.  This act becomes effective July 1, 2010. The fees associated with this act shall take effect no later that January 1, 2011.
