STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 321 2023-2024 Regular Sessions IN ASSEMBLY January 4, 2023 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. L. ROSENTHAL -- read once and referred to the Committee on Election Law AN ACT to amend the election law, in relation to the order of names on ballots for special elections The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The section heading and subdivision 1 of section 7-116 of 2 the election law are amended to read as follows: 3 Ballots; order of names on; general, primary, and special elections. 4 1. In printing the names of candidates on the ballot for a general or 5 special election, the candidate or candidates of the party which polled 6 for its candidate for the office of governor at the last preceding 7 election for such office the highest number of votes, shall be row or 8 column A or one and the candidates of the other parties shall be placed 9 on such ballot in descending order of such votes. 10 § 2.
