S T A T E O F N E W Y O R K ________________________________________________________________________ 5907 2013-2014 Regular Sessions I N A S S E M B L Y March 8, 2013 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. GALEF -- read once and referred to the Committee on Transportation AN ACT to amend the vehicle and traffic law, in relation to authorizing the commissioner of motor vehicles to establish gift cards for vanity license plates THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 1 Section 1. Section 404 of the vehicle and traffic law is amended by 2 adding a new subdivision 2-a to read as follows: 3 2-A. (A) THE COMMISSIONER SHALL PROMULGATE RULES AND REGULATIONS 4 ESTABLISHING GIFT CARDS FOR VANITY LICENSE PLATES. 5 (B) FOR THE PURPOSES OF THIS TITLE, THE TERM "GIFT CARD" SHALL MEAN A 6 RESTRICTED MONETARY EQUIVALENT OR VOUCHER THAT, WHEN REDEEMED BY THE 7 HOLDER, ENTITLES SUCH PERSON TO A VALID VANITY LICENSE PLATE. 8 (C) ALL REVENUES FROM THE SALE OF VANITY PLATE GIFT CARDS SHALL BE 9 PAID TO THE DEPARTMENT AND USED FOR EMPLOYEE CONTINUING EDUCATION AND 10 TRAINING, MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY TRAINING FOR THE PUBLIC, AND THE NEW YORK 11 DEDICATED HIGHWAY AND BRIDGE TRUST FUND. 12 S 2.
