        CONGRATULATING  Team TARDIS 5356 upon the occasion
        of its designation as recipient of the Inspire Award
        at the Excelsior Region  Championship  on  March  3,
        2024

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute  to  those  who,  by  achieving  outstanding  success  in  their
educational endeavors and competitions, have inspired and brought  pride
to our majestic Empire State; and

  WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the  dedication  and  commitment  of  our  young  people who distinguish
themselves through excellence in scholastic competition; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
congratulate Team TARDIS 5356 upon the occasion of  its  designation  as
recipient  of  the Inspire Award at the Excelsior Region Championship on
Sunday, March 3, 2024; and

  WHEREAS, Team  TARDIS  5356  won  the  Inspire  Award,  the  overall
champion's  award,  honoring  them as the most superior and well-rounded
team in Upstate New York, and earning them a ticket to the  FIRST  World
Championship in Houston, Texas; and

  WHEREAS,  Part  of  the  FIRST  Tech Challenge, a global competitive
robotics league with more than 7,500 teams, Team TARDIS 5356 is  one  of
three  high  school  teams  at  Corning  Robotics,  a  community program
sponsored by Corning, Inc.; and

  WHEREAS, Team TARDIS 5356,  a  14-member  team  with  students  from
Corning-Painted  Post,  Horseheads  and  a  home school, competed at the
FIRST World Championship from April 17-20, 2024, in a field of 224 FIRST
Tech Challenge (FTC) teams from 45 states and 25 countries; and

  WHEREAS, In the competition, Team  TARDIS  5356  played  to  an  8-2
overall  record  in  the Ochoa Division, setting multiple high scores in
the division; the team was named 2nd Alliance Captain heading  into  the
semi-final eliminations on the final day of the competition; and

  WHEREAS,  Team  TARDIS  5356  finished  ranked No. 16 out of the 224
teams competing in the FIRST World Championship; furthermore, the team's
engineering portfolio, which documents the season's  journey  and  robot
design  and  development, earned a second place Think Award in the Ochoa
Division; and

  WHEREAS, Paul Dohn, a founding father of Team TARDIS (2011) and  now
its  senior  mentor,  was  nominated  by  the team in recognition of his
dedication to STEM education and the Corning Robotics  program;  he  was
recognized  as  the  second-place global finalist for the Compass Award,
which honors the best coaches and mentors in FIRST Tech Challenge; and

  WHEREAS,  Team  TARDIS  5356  exceeded  all  expectations  and  were
outstanding ambassadors for STEM, Corning Robotics, Upstate New York and
the  Excelsior Region; throughout the season, they contributed more than
930 hours of STEM-based education outreach in the community, interacting
with  more than 1,650 youth at more than 20 events, encouraging the next
generation to embrace robotics, engineering and science  as  they  grow;
and

  WHEREAS,  Poised  eagerly  with  enthusiasm  and determined purpose,
these  students  now  stand  honorably,  with  just   pride   in   their
accomplishments   and   in  eager  anticipation  of  future  challenges,
understanding and appreciating the caring counsel and  support  provided
by their teachers, mentors, and parents; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Team TARDIS 5356 upon the occasion of  its  designation  as
recipient  of  the Inspire Award at the Excelsior Region Championship on
March 3, 2024; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That copies of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to the members of Team TARDIS 5356: Adam Perry, Thang Tran,
Thai Tran, Isaac Moyer, Luke McNaughton, Eavan Qin, Victor Roussev, Dean
Simons, Nicole Miller, Tristan Lint, Graham Simons, Michael  McNaughton,
Seojun Cho and Daphne Karacay.
