The environmental conservation law is amended by adding a 2 new section 37-0119 to read as follows: 3 § 37-0119. Prohibition against certain uses of trichloroethylene. 4 1. Beginning December first, two thousand twenty-one, no person shall 5 use trichloroethylene as a vapor degreaser, an intermediate chemical to 6 produce other chemicals, a refrigerant, or an extraction solvent or in 7 any other manufacturing or industrial cleaning process or use. 8 2. For purposes of this section: 9 (a) "Extraction solvent" means a solvent used to separate a specific 10 substance from a mixture. 11 (b) "Refrigerant" means a chemical that is used as a heat carrier in a 12 cooling mechanism and that changes from liquid to gas and back again in 13 the refrigeration cycle. 14 (c) "Trichloroethylene" means a chemical with the Chemical Registry 15 Abstract Services Number of 79-01-6. 16 (d) "Vapor degreaser" means a substance boiled to a vapor that 17 condenses onto metal parts, causing beading and dripping, and that 18 removes contaminants from the parts. 19 § 2.
