Summary

Authorizes superintendent of state mental hospital to determine location of fitness to proceed examination and location of commitment if court orders defendant committed to state mental hospital for examination. Authorizes superintendent of state mental hospital to determine location of fitness to proceed examination and location of commitment if court orders defendant committed to state mental hospital for examination. Authorizes superintendent of state mental hospital to determine location of defendant's treatment if defendant is serving sentence in Department of Corrections facility and is committed to custody of superintendent for purposes of treatment to gain or regain fitness to proceed. Authorizes further commitment up to one year, during criminal proceeding, of defendant charged with murder who has been found fit to proceed after prior commitment if certain findings are made. Provides that further commitment does not count toward limit on total period of commitment. Establishes procedures for court to order involuntary administration of medication for purpose of defendant gaining or regaining fitness to proceed.
