A RESOLUTION

Honoring the life and expressing condolences upon the death of

2

Marine Corporal Eric M. Torbert, Jr., who paid the supreme

3

sacrifice on December 18, 2010, while serving his country in

4

Afghanistan.

5

WHEREAS, Corporal Eric M. Torbert, Jr., enlisted into the

6

Marine Corps at Parris Island, South Carolina, in October 2007;

7

and

8

WHEREAS, Cpl. Torbert served as a combat engineer with the

9

1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine

10

Expeditionary Force, based at Camp Pendleton, California; and

11

WHEREAS, Cpl. Torbert left for Afghanistan for his first

combat deployment in November 2010; and

2

WHEREAS, On Saturday, December 18, 2010, Cpl. Torbert was

3

killed during combat operations in Afghanistan's Helmand

4

Province; and

5

WHEREAS, Cpl. Torbert's personal service awards include the

6

Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct,

7

National Defense Ribbon, Global War on Terror Service,

8

Afghanistan Campaign Medal with one Bronze Star, Sea Service

9

with one Bronze Star, Global War on Terror Expeditionary and

10

NATO Medal; and

11

WHEREAS, Writing of Cpl. Torbert, Lt. Gen. Thomas D.

12

Waldhauser, commanding general of the 1st Marine Expeditionary

13

Force, stated, "He truly embodied the Marine Corps values of

14

honor, courage and commitment"; and

15

WHEREAS, Marcelle L. Sebastian Torbert, who was married to

16

Cpl. Torbert on June 12, 2010, said of Cpl. Torbert, "He was

17

always going to be my inspiration... He had such a heart of

18

gold"; and

19

WHEREAS, A 2003 graduate of Penn Manor High School, Cpl.

20

Torbert enjoyed listening to music, playing the guitar and

21

playing in a local band, Whyte Lightning; and

22

WHEREAS, Cpl. Torbert is survived by his wife, Marcelle; his

23

mother, Denise; his father, Eric, Sr.; his sister, Lynn; and his

24

brother, Dennis; and

25

WHEREAS, It is fitting to commend the patriotic and heroic

26

contributions that Cpl. Torbert made, to be saddened by this

27

brave young Marine's death and to honor the supreme sacrifice he

28

paid on behalf of this nation and this Commonwealth; therefore

29

be it

30

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life
