R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A life made rich through meaningful service drew to
  a close with the passing of Ola Mae Hunter of Dallas on April 18,
  2023, at the age of 94; and
         WHEREAS, The former Ola Brown was born in Hillsboro on April
  10, 1929, to Berry and Ethel Brown, and she grew up with the
  companionship of eight siblings; she moved to Dallas with her
  paternal aunt at the age of 12, and after graduating from Booker T.
  Washington High School in 1947, she enrolled at Bishop College,
  where she earned a bachelor's degree in religion and met the love of
  her life, Wardell Hunter; the couple exchanged wedding vows in
  February 1950, and they ultimately shared more than six decades of
  marriage before his passing in 2015; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hunter began her lengthy career as an educator
  at a day care center in South Dallas, and she went on to teach
  several grades in the Wilmer-Hutchins Independent School District
  before joining Dallas ISD in 1969; along the way, she undertook
  graduate studies at Prairie View A&M University and earned a
  master's degree in education; she retired from Dallas ISD in 1989,
  and over the course of her 20-year tenure with the district, she
  served as a history teacher at Sarah Zumwalt, L. V. Stockard and E.
  H. Cary Middle Schools; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply engaged in her community, Mrs. Hunter raised
  funds for a number of organizations, including March of Dimes, the
  American Heart Association, the YWCA, and the American Cancer
  Society; in addition, she was involved in a band parents group and
  the PTA; a woman of strong faith, she was active in the
  congregations she attended, serving in such roles as Sunday school
  teacher, Youth for Christ sponsor, and Vacation Bible School
  program coordinator; she also distinguished herself in her role as
  first lady of Olive Grove Baptist Church after Mr. Hunter became
  its pastor; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Hunter was the devoted mother of four
  daughters, Ruby, Virgie, Barbara, and Johnnie, and with the passing
  years, she had the privilege of seeing her family grow to include
  seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Although Ola Hunter is greatly missed, she has left
  her family and friends with a wealth of memories that they will
  forever treasure; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the memory of Ola Mae Hunter and
  extend sincere condolences to all who mourn her passing; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ola Hunter.
