| WHEREAS, Shawn Mena is beginning her tenure as principal of | ||
| Franklin High School in El Paso on April 3, 2017; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Ms. Mena has enjoyed a notable career in education | ||
| that has spanned more than a quarter century; her wide-ranging | ||
| experience includes working as a speech and debate instructor for | ||
| the Ysleta Independent School District and as a lecturer at El Paso | ||
| Community College and The University of Texas at El Paso; prior to | ||
| taking on the role of principal at Franklin High, she served as | ||
| director and assistant principal of the Arts and Humanities Academy | ||
| at Akins High School in Austin; and | ||
| WHEREAS, This esteemed educator and administrator has also | ||
| distinguished herself as president of the Texas Forensic | ||
| Association, which inducted her into its hall of fame in 2009; an | ||
| alumna of UTEP, where she earned both her bachelor's and master's | ||
| degrees, she is currently pursuing a doctorate in education at | ||
| Grand Canyon University; and | ||
| WHEREAS, Through her professional expertise and her | ||
| unwavering commitment to excellence, Shawn Mena has made a positive | ||
| difference in the lives of countless young Texans, and she may | ||
| indeed reflect with pride on her many accomplishments as she takes | ||
| on this challenging new role; now, therefore, be it | ||
| RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 85th Texas | ||
| Legislature hereby congratulate Shawn Mena on her appointment as | ||
| principal of Franklin High School and extend to her sincere best | ||
| wishes for continued success; and, be it further | ||
| RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be | ||
| prepared for Ms. Mena as an expression of high regard by the Texas | ||
| House of Representatives. | ||
