R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Residents of Hays County lost a beloved educator
  with the passing of Armando Chapa of Kyle on April 13, 2022, at the
  age of 81; and
         WHEREAS, The son of Jose and Alberta Chapa, Armando Chapa was
  born in Houston on January 1, 1941; he graduated from The University
  of Texas at Austin and worked for the Gary Job Corps Center in San
  Marcos; in 1974, he was recruited by the Hays-Blanco Special
  Education Cooperative and was quickly promoted to special education
  supervisor and then principal of Hays Middle School; he went on to
  earn a master's degree in guidance and counseling from Prairie View
  A&M University, and in 1986, he became the founding principal of
  Wallace Middle School; thoughtful and caring, he took great
  satisfaction in advising students, and in the early 1990s, he began
  a long tenure as a counselor at Barton Middle School; and
         WHEREAS, Although he retired in 2004, Mr. Chapa continued to
  serve as a mentor in both the Hays Consolidated Independent School
  District and Lockhart ISD; admired by all for his firm yet
  collaborative leadership, great kindness, and marvelous sense of
  humor, he was a role model in the Hispanic community and used his
  platform to advocate tirelessly for education; in 2006, Hays ISD
  named a newly built middle school in his honor; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Chapa was devoted to his wife of 55 years,
  Evangelina "Angie" Chapa, and their five daughters, Veronica,
  Cynthia, Rebecca, Jessica, and Cassandra; in later years, he knew
  the joy of welcoming into his family seven grandchildren,
  Christopher, Matthew, Jaxson, Jace, Joseph, Juliana, and Jordan; a
  man of faith, he was a valued parishioner of St. Anthony Marie de
  Claret Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus; he
  was an avid reader and sports fan, and he supported the Hays Rebels
  as a statistician, announcer, and journalist; and
         WHEREAS, Armando Chapa enriched the lives of generations of
  Central Texas students, and although he will be deeply missed by
  those he left behind, they will forever treasure their memories of
  his warmth, wisdom, and compassion; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Armando Chapa and
  extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Armando
  Chapa.
