relating to the revision of the essential knowledge and skills of | ||
the public school social studies curricula to include instruction | ||
relating to the history of persons with disabilities. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Not later than March 1, 2024, the State Board of | ||
Education shall revise the essential knowledge and skills for | ||
social studies as necessary to require, as age and grade-level | ||
appropriate, instruction in: | ||
(1) the history of persons with disabilities; and | ||
(2) the disability rights movement in the United | ||
States. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
Act takes effect September 1, 2023. |
