A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 22.1-279.3:2, relating to public elementary and secondary school students; protective orders; notification.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 22.1-279.3:2 as follows:

§22.1-279.3:2. Public elementary and secondary school students; protective orders; notification.

Any circuit court, general district court, juvenile and domestic relations district court, or magistrate that issues a protective order pursuant to Chapter 9.1 (§19.2-152.7:1 et seq.) of Title 19.2 for the protection of any child who is enrolled at a public elementary or secondary school in the Commonwealth shall notify the relevant school principal that such protective order has been issued. Each such school principal shall subsequently notify licensed instructional personnel and other school personnel who (i) provide direct educational or support services to the child, (ii) have a legitimate educational interest in such information, and (iii) are responsible for the direct supervision of the child that such protective order has been issued.
