Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 8.01-226.14 as follows:

§8.01-226.14. Immunity of employers; employees and independent contractors convicted of a nonviolent offense; negligent hiring.

A. For purposes of this section, "nonviolent offense" means any criminal offense not contained in subsection C of § 17.1-805 or subsection A of §19.2-392.02.

B. No cause of action for negligent hiring shall arise against any employer solely because such employer hired an employee or independent contractor convicted of a nonviolent offense.
