HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 506
Celebrating the life of Albert L. Hobbs, Jr.

WHEREAS, Albert L. Hobbs, Jr., a longtime Hanover County planning commissioner for the Mechanicsville District, died on August 1, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Albert "Zeke" Hobbs graduated from John Marshall High School, where he was Captain of "C" Company in the Corps of Cadets, and received a bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond; and

WHEREAS, a consummate professional, Zeke Hobbs began a successful 45-year career as an accountant in the insurance industry with the Commonwealth and worked for various companies throughout his career before retiring from the Reciprocal Group in 2003; and

WHEREAS, passionate about his community and fellow neighbors, Zeke Hobbs joined the Hanover County Planning Commission as the Mechanicsville District representative in 1984 and served with great distinction until 2004; and

WHEREAS, Zeke Hobbs joined the planning commission as Mechanicsville was beginning to grow and was influential in the development of the residential and commercial areas of Hanover County; and

WHEREAS, a man of remarkable discipline, Zeke Hobbs never missed a meeting in 20 years, including one meeting that was held in another commissioner's car during a snowstorm; and

WHEREAS, Zeke Hobbs was admired by his fellow commissioners for his enthusiasm and commitment to Hanover County and the Mechanicsville District; he served as chairman of the commission three times and vice-chairman twice; and

WHEREAS, Zeke Hobbs' influence on the growth and development of Hanover County and the Mechanicsville District is evident in the businesses and homes that grace the area; and

WHEREAS, Zeke Hobbs, a 33rd degree Mason, also generously gave of his time and talents in the community as past Master of Washington and Henry Lodge #344 AF and AM, past District Deputy Grand Master for the state of Virginia, and past Venerable Master of the Richmond Scottish Rite; and

WHEREAS, a devoted family man, Zeke Hobbs will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 53 years, Nancy; children, Becky, Betsy, and Davey and their families; and other family members, friends, and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of a fine Virginian devoted to serving his community, Albert L. Hobbs, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Albert L. Hobbs, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
