11104314D WHEREAS, John S. Rorer retired from his position as Mayor of Goshen at the close of the Goshen Town Council meeting on December 7, 2010; and WHEREAS, for more than 20 years, John Rorer faithfully devoted his time and energies to serving the Town of Goshen as mayor and as a member of the Goshen Town Council; and WHEREAS, John Rorer built strong relationships with residents and local businesses and endeavored to hear all sides of an issue before endorsing the best plan of action for the town; and WHEREAS, throughout his tenure of public service, John Rorer promoted sustainable growth and regional planning practices to ensure the long-term prosperity of the Town of Goshen and the surrounding localities; and WHEREAS, responding to the Town's call for assistance in 2008, John Rorer came out of retirement to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Mayor Danny Goodbar; and WHEREAS, when the Goshen water system failed, Mayor John Rorer worked to secure the state and federal grants to replace the main water line and secure the town water supply; and WHEREAS, as one of his final acts as Mayor of Goshen, John Rorer presided over the decision to provide high resolution digital aerial maps to assist in determining property boundaries, directing emergency services calls, and mapping the new town water system; and WHEREAS, at the December 7, 2010, meeting, Mayor John Rorer received a certificate of appreciation from the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission for his service and leadership to the town and region; and WHEREAS, members of the Goshen Town Council were joined by town clerk Bobbie Thornsbury in expressing their appreciation to John Rorer for his dedicated service; and WHEREAS, Mayor John Rorer closed the December 7, 2010, town meeting with a rap of the commemorative gavel presented to him on behalf of the Goshen Town Council; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend John S. Rorer on the occasion of his retirement as Mayor of Goshen; and, be it RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to John S. Rorer as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for his dedication and long years of service to the Town of Goshen and to the Commonwealth. |
