WHEREAS, the Liberty Christian Academy football team of Lynchburg won the Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship on December 9, 2023, at Liberty University's Williams Stadium; and
WHEREAS, the Liberty Christian Academy Bulldogs defeated the Lafayette High School Rams of Williamsburg by a score of 28–14 to bring home the program's first Virginia High School League state championship title; and
WHEREAS, after going into halftime with a 21–0 lead, the Liberty Christian Bulldogs staved off a late comeback by the Lafayette Rams, sealing the victory with a 44-yard touchdown off a reverse and a series of tough defensive stops toward the end of regulation; and
WHEREAS, the Liberty Christian Bulldogs' victory was a total team effort, with a standout performance from running back Gideon Davidson, who rushed for 302 yards and three touchdowns and also secured two interceptions on defense; and
WHEREAS, the Liberty Christian Bulldogs saw impressive play on both sides of the ball throughout the season as the team marched its way to a perfect 14–0 record and its first undefeated season since joining the Virginia High School League in the 2015–2016 academic year; and
WHEREAS, the Liberty Christian Bulldogs' win marks the first time in the 110-year history of the Virginia High School League that a private school's team won a football championship in any of the league's six classifications; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Liberty Christian Bulldogs is the result of the hard work and dedication of the student-athletes, the leadership and guidance of their coaches and teachers, and the unwavering support of their families and the entire Liberty Christian Academy community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, That the Liberty Christian Academy football team hereby be commended for winning the 2023 Virginia High School League Class 3 state championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Frank Rocco, coach of the Liberty Christian Academy football team, as an expression of the House of Delegates' admiration for the team's achievement.
