A BILL to amend and reenact §17A-6-14 of the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, relating to requiring the Commissioner of the Division of Motor Vehicles to allow the purchase of one trip special permits for a new motor vehicle dealer to be made and paid online.

Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

 

ARTICLE 6. LICENSING OF DEALERS AND WRECKERS OR DISMANTLERS; SPECIAL PLATES; TEMPORARY PLATES OR MARKERS.

§17A-6-14. Operation of motor vehicles by certain dealers under special permits.

(a) The commissioner is hereby authorized to may grant in his discretion, special permits to a new motor vehicle dealer for use on new motor vehicles driven under their own power from the factory or distributing place of a manufacturer, or other dealer, to a place of business of such dealer, or from such place of business to a place of business of another such dealer. Each special permit shall be good only for one trip, and such permit shall not be used by any such dealer in lieu of any registration card or plate required by this chapter.

(b) Effective July 1, 2024, the commissioner shall allow the special permits to be purchased online and the required fee to be remitted to the division in an electronic format.

 

 

NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to require the Commissioner of the Division of Motor Vehicles to allow the purchase of one trip special permits for a new motor vehicle dealer to be made and paid online.
