HOUSE RESOLUTION

 

 

CONGRATULATING THE WINNERS OF THE HAWAII VENTURE CAPITAL ASSOCIATION'S 16TH ANNUAL AWARDS.

 

 

 

     WHEREAS, the prosperity and well-being of our communities depend on the vision and entrepreneurial spirit of individuals working to benefit the greater good and promote a robust economy for our island state; and

 

     WHEREAS, the goal of the Hawaii Venture Capital Association (HVCA) is to foster entrepreneurial development through education, exposure to excellent speakers, and networking with key members of Hawaii's business community; and

 

     WHEREAS, each year at its Awards Gala, HVCA recognizes outstanding entrepreneurship in Hawaii to bring to light and celebrate with pride the many noteworthy achievements that our local businesses and driven entrepreneurs have attained over the past year; and

 

     WHEREAS, GARRETT W. MARRERO was awarded the 2015 HVCA Entrepreneur of the Year Award for his work as co-founder of Maui Brewing Company and growing the company from a seven-barrel brewpub with 23 employees producing 320 barrels of beer in 2005 to a regional craft brewery with nearly 100 employees brewing approximately 45,000 barrels of beer in 2016; and

 

     WHEREAS, TAD GLAUTHIER of Stem was awarded the 2015 HVCA Deal of the Year Award for the company's successful closing on a $45 Million Series C round in December 2015 as well as a ground-breaking distributed storage contract with Southern California Edison, the largest such contract globally to-date; and

 

     WHEREAS, RICHARD WACKER of American Savings Bank was awarded the 2015 HVCA Investor of the Year Award; and

     WHEREAS, TINA FITCH, MARK QUEZADA, and TIFFANY QUEZADA of HobNob were awarded the 2015 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year Award; and

 

     WHEREAS, DANIEL NASH and SEAN HOOKANO-BRIEL of Comprendio were awarded the 2015 HVCA Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award; now, therefore,

 

     BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the Twenty-eighth Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2016, that this body hereby congratulates GARRETT W. MARRERO for being named the 2015 HVCA Entrepreneur of the Year; TAD GLAUTHIER for being awarded the 2015 HVCA Deal of the Year Award; RICHARD WACKER for being awarded the 2015 HVCA Investor of the Year Award; TINA FITCH, MARK QUEZADA, and TIFFANY QUEZADA for being awarded the 2015 HVCA People's Choice Startup of the Year Award; and DANIEL NASH and SEAN HOOKANO-BRIEL for being awarded the 2015 HVCA Tech Entrepreneur of the Year Award, and expresses to them its appreciation for their devotion and commitment to improving the future of Hawaii and the Pacific through successful entrepreneurship.
