| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neurological disease | ||||||
3 | of the central nervous system that affects nearly one million | ||||||
4 | people in the United States alone; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Multiple sclerosis generally strikes people in | ||||||
6 | the prime of life, between ages 20 through 50, and the cause | ||||||
7 | and course of the often debilitating symptoms of MS remain | ||||||
8 | unknown; no cure currently exists; and
| ||||||
9 | WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is | ||||||
10 | committed to a world free of MS and heightening public | ||||||
11 | knowledge about and insight into the disease; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, The National Multiple Sclerosis Society has | ||||||
13 | worked to transform what it means to live with MS and has | ||||||
14 | provided global leadership to help achieve a vision of a world | ||||||
15 | free of MS; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Since 1946, the National Multiple Sclerosis | ||||||
17 | Society has been a driving force of MS research by | ||||||
18 | relentlessly pursuing prevention, treatments, and a cure, | ||||||
19 | investing more than $1 billion in groundbreaking research; and
| ||||||
20 | WHEREAS, Funds raised through the National Multiple |

1 | Sclerosis Society fuel research on pathways to MS cures and | ||||||
2 | are invested in the MS research workforce at the best medical | ||||||
3 | centers, universities, and other institutions throughout the | ||||||
4 | U.S. and abroad, leading to many breakthroughs in the | ||||||
5 | treatment of MS; and

6 | WHEREAS, The mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis | ||||||
7 | Society is to cure MS while empowering people affected by MS to | ||||||
8 | live their best lives, a mission that all Americans and | ||||||
9 | Illinoisans should support; therefore, be it

10 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
11 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare March 12 | ||||||
12 | through March 18, 2023 as MS Awareness Week in the State of | ||||||
13 | Illinois and recognize the importance of finding the cause and | ||||||
14 | cure of MS; and be it further

15 | RESOLVED, That we encourage all Illinoisans to learn more | ||||||
16 | about multiple sclerosis and what they can do to support | ||||||
17 | individuals with MS and their families; and be it further
| ||||||
18 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
19 | presented to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Greater | ||||||
20 | Illinois Chapter in appreciation for their dedication to | ||||||
21 | creating a world free of MS.
