| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Charles Randall "Randy" Lewis of | ||||||
4 | Newtown, Connecticut, who passed away on March 11, 2022 at the | ||||||
5 | age of 77; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Randy Lewis was born to Dr. Charles and Anna Jean | ||||||
7 | (Robertson) Lewis in East Lansing, Michigan on March 4, 1945; | ||||||
8 | he was raised in Oak Park and attended Oak Park and River | ||||||
9 | Forest High School; he enrolled at the University of Virginia | ||||||
10 | (UVA), during which he developed a fondness for Civil War | ||||||
11 | history and the Blue Ridge Mountains; upon completing his | ||||||
12 | postsecondary studies, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served | ||||||
13 | during the Vietnam War; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, Randy Lewis settled and raised his family in | ||||||
15 | Newtown, Connecticut; he built a career in sales and estate | ||||||
16 | planning, which included stints with Northwestern Mutual, | ||||||
17 | Cigna, and the Union Savings Bank Trust Department, serving as | ||||||
18 | senior vice president for the latter; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Randy Lewis was involved with multiple community | ||||||
20 | organizations; he belonged to the Midwestern Connecticut | ||||||
21 | Council on Alcoholism (MCCA) for 27 years, most recently as | ||||||
22 | chairman of the board; he also served on the vestry and several |

1 | committees at Trinity Episcopal Church in Newtown; and
| ||||||
2 | WHEREAS, Throughout adulthood, Randy Lewis remained | ||||||
3 | passionate about his college alma mater, UVA; he became the | ||||||
4 | president of the Fairfield County UVA Club and established a | ||||||
5 | memorial scholarship for new students; and
| ||||||
6 | WHEREAS, Randy Lewis was an avid reader, which informed | ||||||
7 | and inspired his conversations on history, politics, and | ||||||
8 | current events; his favorite New England and MidAtlantic bars | ||||||
9 | were Mory's in New Haven, the Tombs in Georgetown, and | ||||||
10 | Washington Tavern in Washington Depot; and
| ||||||
11 | WHEREAS, Randy Lewis relished spending time with family; | ||||||
12 | he especially enjoyed traveling with his wife, Sue, and their | ||||||
13 | experiences included viewing wildlife in Captiva, Florida, | ||||||
14 | exploring the National Sea Shore on Cape Cod, and taking road | ||||||
15 | trips; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, Randy Lewis was | ||||||
17 | survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue; his daughters, Karen | ||||||
18 | (David Pardoe) and Sarah (Robert McElhinney); his grandsons, | ||||||
19 | Jack and Sam; and his sister, Kate; therefore, be it
| ||||||
20 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL | ||||||
21 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |

1 | Charles Randall "Randy" Lewis and extend our sincere | ||||||
2 | condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved | ||||||
3 | him; and be it further
