The Speaker, on behalf of the entire membership of the House of Representatives, offered the following resolution:

            House Resolution No. 359.

            A resolution of tribute offered as a memorial for Wilfred Webb, former member of the House of Representatives.

            Whereas, The members of this body were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Representative Wilfred Webb. He will be remembered for his service and dedication to the city of Hazel Park, the constituents of the Sixty-sixth District, and the entire state of Michigan; and

            Whereas, After graduating from Alma College, Wilfred Webb began a career as an educator in Hazel Park. He served in many capacities for the school district, including teacher, counselor, and principal, ultimately filling the role of superintendent for over 17 years. In his many roles, he shaped young minds, enhanced educational opportunities, and guided the district. Wilfred Webb also led by example, as he earned a master’s degree and a Doctorate of Education from Wayne State University; and

            Whereas, Wilfred Webb was first elected to the House of Representative in a 1982 special election, serving through 1984. He began a second legislative stint in 1987 and served another three terms until he retired after 1992. During his time in the Legislature, he served on the Education, Colleges and Universities, Public Utilities, and Taxation committees. He led and provided experience on many issues, such as education and elder abuse. Wilfred Webb also served on the House Appropriations Committee multiple times, helping allocate taxpayer dollars to effective and efficient use; and

            Whereas, Generous of his expertise and talents, Wilfred Webb contributed much of his time to community endeavors. He was a Boy Scout leader and formed a youth assistance program when he worked as an educator. Additionally, he was a lay leader and board member of his church and board member and chair of the Oakland County General Health Systems and the St. John’s Health System. Wilfred Webb was also active in the Lions Club, the Delta Kappa educational fraternity, and the Michigan Association of School Administrators, among other groups; and

Whereas, Wilfred Webb was honored numerous times for his service and achievements. He received the Silver Beaver award from the Boy Scouts of America for his dedication to helping youth. In 1985, he was inducted into the Michigan Education Hall of Fame. His other awards included an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Alma College; now, therefore, be it

            Resolved by the House of Representatives, That we offer this expression of our highest tribute to honor the memory of Wilfred Webb, a member of this legislative body from 1982 to 1984 and 1987 to 1992; and be it further

            Resolved, That copies of this resolution be transmitted to the Webb family as evidence of our lasting esteem for his memory.
