Summary

An Act To Amend Section 43-17-5, Mississippi Code Of 1972, To Provide That Recipients Of Tanf Benefits Who Are 13 Years Of Age Or Older May Be Required To Submit To One Randomly Administered Drug Test Per Year To Determine Their Eligibility To Continue Receiving Tanf Benefits; To Provide That Persons Who Test Positive For Illegal Drugs Shall Have Tanf Benefits Terminated And Shall Be Required To Pass Two Later Tests Before Tanf Benefits Are Reinstated; To Authorize The Department Of Human Services To Enter Into An Agreement With The State Department Of Health That Will Allow The Department Of Health To Perform The Drug Testing Of Tanf Recipients; To Provide That The Cost Of The Initial Drug Test Shall Be Paid In Equal Parts By The Department Of Human Services And The State Department Of Health; To Provide That Persons Failing To Pass The Initial Drug Test Shall Be Responsible For Paying The Cost Of Later Tests; And For Related Purposes.
