A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT to extend the territorial JURISDICTION of the winston‑salem police DEPARTMENT to the village of clemmons within forsyth county.

The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:

SECTION 1. The incorporated municipalities of the City of Winston‑Salem and the Village of Clemmons, both within the County of Forsyth, are hereby authorized and empowered to enter into a contract, on such terms and conditions as may be agreed upon by the municipalities, whereby the City of Winston‑Salem Police Department may furnish police protection to the territory within the corporate limits of the Village of Clemmons. This jurisdiction shall include any extraterritorial jurisdiction the Village of Clemmons is by law entitled to exercise.

SECTION 2. Upon execution of such a contract, and the spreading of the same upon the minutes of the governing bodies, the police jurisdiction of the City of Winston‑Salem shall thereby be extended and enlarged to include all that territory within the corporate limits of the Village of Clemmons, and within the corporate limits of the contracting municipality, all members of the Winston‑Salem Police Department shall have all rights, powers, and authority vested in them within the corporate limits of the City of Winston‑Salem, and in addition shall have full power to enforce the ordinances of the Village of Clemmons.

SECTION 3. This act applies to the City of Winston‑Salem and the Village of Clemmons only.

SECTION 4. This act is effective when it becomes law.
