        AN ACT to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law,  in
          relation to Gold Star families

          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:

     1    Section 1. Section 13.19 of the parks, recreation and historic preser-
     2  vation law, as amended by chapter 649 of the laws of 1977, is amended to
     3  read as follows:
     4    § 13.19 Free use of campsites. 1. Notwithstanding  the  provisions  of
     5  any other law, any person who is blind, non-ambulatory, or an amputee or
     6  any  veteran [of the wars of the United States, who has at any time been
     7  awarded by the federal government an allowance towards the  purchase  of
     8  an automobile or is eligible for such an award] or member of a Gold Star
     9  family  shall be permitted to use any of the public campsites, parks and
    10  other public places of recreation in this state, upon the same terms and
    11  conditions as apply to the general public, but without  the  payment  of
    12  any fees or other charges for the use of such campsites, parks and other
    13  public places of recreation.
    14    2. For the purposes of this section "veteran" shall mean a resident of
    15  this  state  who: (a) has served in the United States army, navy, marine
    16  corps, air force or coast guard; or (b) has served  on  active  duty  or
    17  ordered  to  active  duty as defined in 10 USC 101 (d)(1) as a member of
    18  the national guard or other reserve component of the armed forces of the
    19  United States; or (c) has served on active duty  or  ordered  to  active
    20  duty  for  the  state,  as  a  member  of the state organized militia as
    21  defined in subdivision nine of section one of the military law, and  has
    22  been  released  from  such service documented by an honorable or general
    23  discharge, or has a qualifying condition, as defined  in  section  three
    24  hundred  fifty  of the executive law, and has received a discharge other
    25  than bad conduct or dishonorable from such service, or is  a  discharged

     1  LGBT veteran, as defined in section three hundred fifty of the executive
     2  law, and has received a discharge other than bad conduct or dishonorable
     3  from such service.
     4    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
