A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
  relating to admission of certain students to an open-enrollment
  charter school in certain counties.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 12.117, Education Code, is amended by
  adding Subsection (d) to read as follows:
         (d)  This subsection applies only to an open-enrollment
  charter school with an enrollment greater than 200 students that is
  located in a county with a population of less than 400,000 that
  contains a municipality with a population of at least 300,000.  
  Notwithstanding Section 12.111(a)(13), an open-enrollment charter
  school to which this subsection applies may admit a child of an
  employee of the school as provided by this section regardless of
  whether the child resides in the geographic area served by the
  school.
         SECTION 2.  This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020
  school year.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2019.
