| relating to admission of certain students to an open-enrollment | ||
| charter school in certain counties. | ||
| BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
| SECTION 1. Section 12.117, Education Code, is amended by | ||
| adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: | ||
| (d) This subsection applies only to an open-enrollment | ||
| charter school with an enrollment greater than 200 students that is | ||
| located in a county with a population of less than 400,000 that | ||
| contains a municipality with a population of at least 300,000. | ||
| Notwithstanding Section 12.111(a)(13), an open-enrollment charter | ||
| school to which this subsection applies may admit a child of an | ||
| employee of the school as provided by this section regardless of | ||
| whether the child resides in the geographic area served by the | ||
| school. | ||
| SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2019-2020 | ||
| school year. | ||
| SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives | ||
| a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as | ||
| provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this | ||
| Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this | ||
| Act takes effect September 1, 2019. | ||
