A BILL to require the Board of Education to establish alternative pathways to the advanced studies diploma and associated diploma seals.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. §1. The Board of Education shall establish pathways to the advanced studies high school diploma, and  associated diploma seals for students who successfully follow and demonstrate excellence on such pathways, that require advanced coursework in a career and technical education field such as advanced manufacturing or robotics in lieu of world language courses or any other required course that the Board deems appropriate.

§2. The pathways to the advanced studies high school diploma and the associated diploma seals established by the Board of Education pursuant to §1 of this act shall become effective for the 2023–2024 school year and shall be available to any student, regardless of the school year during which the student enters ninth grade.
